Two Fatalities In New Orleans Truck Accidents
Thursday, November 19th was an unusually dangerous one on area roadways, as two separate New Orleans automobile accidents ended in fatalities. The first lead to the death of a driver struck by a pickup truck, and the second accident caused the death of a tractor-trailer truck driver killed by the crane on the back of his own rig.
Reckless Driving To Blame?
According to police, the first accident occurred when a 34-year-old woman exited southbound Interstate 510 at Old Gentilly Road, but missed her turn. She crossed multiple lanes of traffic attempting to correct her mistake, but unfortunately was struck in the driver’s side door in a T-bone collision by a pickup truck traveling the opposite direction.
The woman’s blue sedan was heavily damaged on the driver’s side door, where it had been struck by the pickup truck. The woman died in the collision. After being called to the scene, New Orleans Police Department officers hung a white sheet over the open passenger door as they waited for a Orleans Parish coroner’s van to arrive. The driver of the pickup truck was not seriously injured.
Crane Collapse Kills Truck Driver
The first accident happened around 10:00 a.m., and just a few hours later, a tractor-trailer truck was involved in an accident Lakeshore and Marconi drives. As a result of the accident, the crane attached to the trailer’s bed collapsed forward, crushing the tractor’s cabin.
The truck driver was killed as a result of the crane’s collapse. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident was taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to officials. There has been no update on their condition, and an investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
